Student Rights and Responsibilities

Rights
Students' rights in the Honor System can be found in Section IV.A of the Instrument of Student Judicial Governance.

Responsibilities
A list of student responsibilities can be found in the Instrument of Student Judicial Governance, Appendix A. These responsibilities are the minimum expected of members of the Student Body; all students are expected to actively support and protect the ideals of the Honor System at Carolina. These responsibilities must not only be met, but exceeded, for Carolina’s Honor System to continue to thrive.

Top Five Principles for Students to Live By at Carolina

  1. Honor at Carolina is a tradition which traces its roots to the very foundation of the University. As students we are proceeded by over 130 years of self-governance; strive everyday to uphold these principals which we hold in high regard.
  2. Do not lie, cheat or steal.
  3. If you have a gut feeling that what you are about to do is wrong – STOP and ask for help or find another solution.
  4. Reporting a violation is not required under the Honor Code, but students are encouraged to hold each other accountable for their actions.
  5. Review the full list of Student Responsibilities in Appendix A of the Instrument.
