Report a Violation

An effective system of student self-governance depends upon the actions of all members of the student community. Students are expected to report instances of possible misconduct so that they may be investigated fully to determine whether Honor Court action is appropriate. You are encouraged to assist in the maintenance of a just and safe community by reporting any possible academic or non-academic misconduct.

  • If you witness a potential violation of the Honor Code or you are unsure whether a situation needs to be reported, you may consult your instructor or file a report with the Student Attorney General or the Dean of Students Office.
  • Once you file a report, the appropriate student attorney general will contact you to find out more about the conduct you observed. We encourage you to take notes about the situation while it is fresh in your mind in order to ensure accurate recollection of events.
  • You may be called upon to participate in the hearing if the student is charged with an Honor Code violation.

Students who report a possible violation of the Honor Code are called complainants. Complainants are guaranteed certain rights within the Honor System regarding their participation in an Honor Court hearing. The following rights are discussed more fully within Section IV.B of the Instrument of Student Judicial Governance.
